Servings:

Flavour Used:

Chef Easy Fried Chicken Seasoning (Mild)

Ingredients

  • For the Chicken Filling
  • 150 g raw minced chicken
  • 1 tsp Chef Easy Fried Chicken Seasoning (Mild)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives or scallions, finely chopped
  • For Assembling and Frying
  • 18 square wonton wrappers
  • 1 small egg, beaten, for sealing
  • Vegetable oil, for deep frying

Chef Easy Tip

No additional salt, black pepper, garlic, ginger, green seasoning or other dry spices are needed. Chef Easy Fried Chicken Seasoning (Mild) provides the main seasoning flavour for the chicken filling, while the sesame oil, light soy sauce and fresh chives complement the overall taste.

Chef Easy Cooking Tips

  • Prepare the filling properly: Finely mince or chop the chicken to achieve a smooth, evenly distributed filling. Avoid adding too much liquid, as excess moisture can soften the wrappers and cause them to split during frying.
  • Use the right amount of filling: Divide the chicken mixture evenly among the 18 wrappers. Avoid overfilling to prevent the wontons from bursting during frying.
  • Seal the edges firmly: Brush the wrapper edges lightly with beaten egg and press firmly to remove trapped air. This helps prevent the filling from escaping into the hot oil.
  • Maintain the correct frying temperature: Keep the oil at approximately 350°F (175°C). If the oil is too hot, the wrappers may brown before the chicken is fully cooked.
  • Add fresh flavour: Finely chopped chives or scallions provide a mild onion flavour that complements the seasoned chicken filling.
  • Prepare ahead of time: Arrange uncooked wontons in a single layer on a tray and freeze until firm. Transfer to a freezer-safe container and fry directly from frozen when needed. Allow extra cooking time to ensure the chicken is fully cooked.
  • Serve immediately: Wontons are best enjoyed hot and crispy. Serve with sweet chilli sauce or your favourite dipping sauce.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken filling

Place the minced chicken in a medium mixing bowl.

  2. Season the chicken

Add 1 tsp Chef Easy Fried Chicken Seasoning (Mild), sesame oil, light soy sauce and finely chopped chives or scallions. Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are evenly combined and the filling becomes slightly sticky.

  3. Prepare the wrappers

Place a wonton wrapper on a clean, dry work surface with one corner pointing towards you. Keep the remaining wrappers covered with a slightly damp kitchen towel to prevent them from drying out.

  4. Add the filling

Divide the chicken mixture evenly among the 18 wrappers, placing a small portion in the centre of each. Avoid overfilling, as this can cause the wontons to burst during frying.

  5. Seal the wontons

Lightly brush the edges of each wrapper with beaten egg. Fold diagonally to form a triangle, pressing firmly around the filling to remove trapped air and seal the edges.

  6. Shape the wontons

Bring the two outer corners of the triangle together, overlapping them slightly. Brush with a little beaten egg and press firmly to secure. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

  7. Heat the oil

Pour vegetable oil into a deep, heavy-bottomed pot and heat to approximately 350°F (175°C).

  8. Fry the wontons

Carefully lower the wontons into the hot oil in small batches without overcrowding the pot. Fry for approximately 4–6 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy. Ensure the chicken filling reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

  9. Drain the wontons

Remove the wontons using a slotted spoon and transfer to a wire rack to drain excess oil.

  10. Serve and enjoy

Serve immediately while hot and crispy, accompanied by sweet chilli sauce or your favourite dipping sauce.
